HAVERHILL—The Lady Tigers were more like female attack dogs.

Ironton went on the offensive with 13 hits en route to a 17-1 win over the Coal Grove Lady Hornets on Monday in the Division III sectional semifinals.

Janie Morris, Brea Tackett and Nikki Elswick led the attack. Morris was 3-3 with a home run, Elswick 2-4 including a triple, and Tackett 2-3.

“Our bats were cracking tonight,” said Ironton coach Missy Fields. “Morris, Elswick and Tackett really attacked the ball tonight. We were hitting the holes and not hitting right to the defense.

“Some of the errors that the Hornets were charged with were because of hard hit balls.”

Kylie Summers tossed a four-hitter to get the win. She struck out nine and walked just one in the five innings.

“Summers had a real good game tonight. I believe this was her best game yet. She is gaining speed and hitting her spots,” said Fields.

“We have recently put (Summers) in the batting order and she is helping out there as well.”

The win puts Ironton in the sectional title game at No. 1 seed Chesapeake on Friday.

Ironton plays a league game at Portsmouth on Tuesday. A win could give the Lady Tigers a chance to finish second in the Southeastern Ohio Athletic League South Division.
