Pennisten, Massie indicted

A former South Point High School Band Boosters treasurer was indicted late last week in connection with band boosters duties as well as her work as branch manager of a local bank.
Sheila R. Pennisten, 42, of 106 Seventh St., South Point, was indicted on one count of grand theft in connection with $5,472 that was taken from the band boosters account last year. She is also charged with one count of engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity in connection with her work as branch manager of the South Point branch of Wesbanco.
The grand jury also returned an indictment against an Ironton man arrested in connection with an April shooting.
George M. Massie, 26, of 4656 State Route 141, Ironton, was indicted on one count of felonious assault with a firearm specification and one count of tampering with evidence. He is accused of shooting William J. “Joey” Scherer during an altercation April 2 on County Road 4.
Scherer was shot once in the left shoulder and once in the left neck. Massie remains in the Lawrence County Jail.
According to information from the office of Lawrence County Prosecutor J.B. Collier Jr., others indicted were:
— George F. Yates, 54, 587 Township Road 148, Chesapeake, grand theft. He is accused of stealing an estimated $18,803 in electricity from Buckeye Rural Electric Cooperative between January 1995 and January 2009.
— Robert E. Jarrett Jr., 36, Huntington, W.Va., felony possession of cocaine and misdemeanor possession of marijuana.
— Cletis E. White, 57, Huntington, W.Va., gross sexual imposition. The alleged victim was a 5 year old girl.
— Jeremy D. Jenkins, 23, 406 Pike St., Coal Grove, felonious assault, misdemeanor assault. He is accused of assaulting two people during an altercation at the Marlow Grill.
— Ronald W. Hundley, 43, Eden, N.C., intimidation, resisting arrest. He is accused of threatening Assistant Coal Grove Police Chief Eric Spurlock and his family after Hundley was arrested by Spurlock.
— William H. Bailey, 43, 609R Buckhorn St., Ironton, unlawful sexual conduct with a minor. His alleged victim was a 15-year-old girl.
— Joseph L. Weed, 25, 212 Mason St., South Point, breaking and entering, theft.
— John R. Hogan, 23, 42 N. Second St., Ironton, complicity to breaking and entering, complicity to grand theft, complicity to tampering with evidence.
— Justin O. Jenkins, 20, Lincoln Avenue, South Point, breaking and entering, grand theft, tampering with evidence.
— Danny Short, 34, 17220 State Route 217, Crown City, breaking and entering, theft.
The grand jury met Thursday and Friday.
