Easterling’s pinpoint pitching keys win

PROCTORVILLE — Robbie Easterling’s favorite pitch isn’t a fastball or a curveball. It’s a strike.

Easterling was using his favorite pitch on Friday as he fashioned a three-hitter and the Fairland Dragons blanked the Chesapeake Panthers 7-0 to win the Division III sectional tournament.

Easterling struck out seven and walked only one.

“Robbie threw strikes and he always throws strikes. He keeps the ball down and throws enough curveballs to keep you off-balance,” said Fairland coach Roger Snyder.

Fairland (15-1) will now play Crooksville at 5 p.m. on Thursday at Ross Park outside of Chillicothe in the district semifinals.

The Dragons jumped ahead 2-0 in the first inning when Cole Hatfield walked and Easterling hit a two-run homer.

Two more runs scored in the second inning with two outs on five straight walks.

The lead went to 5-0 in the third inning on a double by Tyler Godby and a single by Chris Ward.

Fairland capped the scoring with two runs in the sixth.

Easterling and Tyler Thackston walked and Zach Matasich had an RBI single. Thackston scored when Godby hit into a fielder’s choice.

Matasich was 2-4 as Fairland had seven hits.
