PEDRO — The Rock Hill Redmen had an eraser on the end of their bats.

Despite some baserunning errors, the Redmen bounced back and slipped past the Minford Falcons 5-4 in eight innings on Friday to win the Division III sectional tournament.

“We had a few mistakes that cost us early, but we overcame that and after they tied the game we didn’t let down,” said Rock Hill coach Barry Litteral.

“The kids played well and they played together as a team.”

David Turley went the distance for the win. He struck out nine, walked three and three of the runs were earned.

“Turley threw the ball well and for the most part we played pretty good defense,” said Litteral.

Rock Hill (10-5) will play Adena at 5 p.m. on Wednesday at Athens High School in the district semifinals.

Minford scored two runs in the first inning — one unearned — but the Redmen answered with four runs in the third inning.

Turley singled to start the inning, Josh Malone had an infield hit and Shane Russell got a bunt single to load the bases. Mitchell Davenport emptied the bases with a double, moved up on a ground out and scored on a wild pitch.

Minford tied the game with two runs in the seventh inning.

Luke Bryan doubled, Josh Hackworth walked, Henry Allen beat out an infield hit to load the bases and Steven Price singled home the tying runs.

Rock Hill scored the winning run in the eighth inning with two outs.

Russell singled and stole second. Two outs later he came home on a single by Cody Massie.
