Redwomen top Trojans in sectional finals

PEDRO — Leather and aluminum.

Those were the main ingredients for the Rock Hill Redwomen who used defense and hitting to beat the Portsmouth Lady Trojans 10-0 Friday in the Division III sectional finals.

“The girls played well tonight. I’m proud of them. We had good defense and they hit the ball well,” said Rock Hill coach Mary Harper.

The Redwomen did not commit an error and had 11 hits to back the three-hit pitching of Jazel DeAutremont who struck out six and walked two.

Rock Hill (12-6) will now play Unioto at 5 p.m. on Tuesday at the University of Rio Grande in the district semifinals.

Rock Hill scored single runs in each of the first two innings.

Courtney Duncan got to second base on a pair of errors and DeAutremont hit a sacrifice fly in the first.

Kassie Large singled, stole second, moved up on a wild pitch and scored when Griffith was safe on a fielder’s choice in the second inning.

The lead went to 4-0 in the third.

Chelsea Harper was hit by a pitch, took second on a wild pitch and came home on a hit by DeAutremont. Two wild pitches sent DeAutremont to third base and she scored on a hit by Large.

Duncan singled and scored in the fourth inning when Harper was safe on a throwing error.

Two more runs scored in the fifth inning.

Megan Russell singled, courtesy runner Morgan Schug went to second on a hit by Large, and Ashley Griffith grounded out as a run scored. Two more errors enabled Large to score.

In the sixth, Duncan walked, moved to second on a wild pitch and scored when Harper reached on a missed third strike.

DeAutremont singled and Harper scored on a passed ball. DeAutremont came home on a wild pitch.
