Jerry D. Carey, 69, of Ironton, passed away Friday, May 15, 2009, at the Cornerstone Hospital in Huntington, W.Va. He was born Aug. 21, 1939, in Lawrence County, the son of the late Clyde and Eltha Elkins Carey. He was a professional business owner of Carey Tires for more than 40 years and was a 30-year retiree of Armco. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Shriners.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Alston Carey and Fred Carey.
He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Grone Carey, whom he married in 1961; two sons, J.D. Carey of Lexington, Ky., and Michael W. and Tracie Carey of Ironton; two daughters, Angela and Bill Birch of Lexington and Melinda and Aaron Cosby of Lexington; four sisters, Wanda and Paul Perkins of South Point, Shelby and Ronnie Malone of Alabama, Molly “Ann” Dillon of Georgia and Belinda and Donny Massey of Florida; a brother, Doug Carey of Massillon; 11 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be at noon Friday at the Tracy Brammer Funeral Home with the Rev. Clell Elliott and the Rev. Steve Harvey officiating. Interment will follow at Woodland Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today.
