IRONTON — One day before the floats, the bands and the picnics, Lawrence Countians gather each year to pay somber tribute at the graves of those who in fact are memorialized on Memorial Day.
The annual Woodland Cemetery service will be 2 p.m. Sunday in the soldier’s section of that graveyard.
A member of the state Veterans of Foreign Wars is expected to attend and deliver the keynote address. Officers of the areas veterans groups will lay a wreath at the monument to fallen soldiers.
Mark McCown is master of ceremonies for the event. Soloist Herb Rose will present patriotic musical selections. The Rev. Chad Pemberton will give the invocation and benediction. Bugler Zach Jenkins will play “Taps.”
