MINFORD — The Green Lady Bobcats did everything well, and that usually means something good happened.

And it did.

Ali Thompson pitched a two-hitter and the Green Lady Bobcats spanked out 14 hits as they blanked the Leesburg Fairfield Lady Lions 11-0 on Saturday to win the Division IV district championship.

“We played well and hit the ball well,” said Green coach Dale Royse.

“We’re real pleased with the district championship. Leesburg has a good hitting team. Ali threw well and our girls came out ready to play.”

Green (17-3) advances to the regionals at 5 p.m. Thursday at Pickering Central High School against Portsmouth Clay.

Thompson struck out seven and did not walk a batter in her five innings of work.

Abbey Barrett and Thompson hit solo home runs in the first inning to give Green a quick 2-0 lead. Barrett’s was an inside-the-park round tripper.

Four more runs scored in the second inning.

Adrianne Blankenship singled, Brea Johnson doubled and Ashlee Runyon grounded out as a run scored. Destiny Skaggs then singled home Johnson.

Cassidy Skaggs doubled and Barrett singled in a run. Thompson and Tiffany Stoneking walked to force in the fourth run.

The lead went to 8-0 in the third inning when Taylor Stevens singled, Runyon walked and Destiny Skaggs tripled.

The final three runs came across in the fourth inning.

Barrett tripled and Thompson singled for the first run. Thompson stole second and scored on a hit by Blankenship. After Blankenship stole second, Johnson followed with an RBI double.

Barrett and Destiny Skaggs each went 3-3 for Green. Thompson was 2-2 while Blankenship and Johnson were 2-3.
