CINCINNATI —Perry Township resident Amy Wilcox has succumbed to injuries she sustained in an alleged domestic violence attack at the hands of her estranged husband.

Lawrence County Sheriff Jeff Lawless confirmed Friday evening that he had been notified of Amy Wilcox’s death by family members just after 5 p.m. The first announcement was made on the Community Missionary Baptist Church website.

“We regret to inform that Amy has lost her battle from her injuries and has gone on to our glorious father in heaven,” the church announcement said. “Thank you for all your prayers and please keep praying for the family.”

Amy Wilcox was a member of that church.

Lawless said the charges against Tom Wilcox will certainly be altered to reflect the change in circumstances.

Amy Wilcox, 38, had been in critical condition at a Cincinnati hospital since the April 29 incident. Authorities contend Tom Wilcox went to her residence, assaulted her and then set her on fire. She was taken first to Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, W.Va., and then by helicopter to a Cincinnati hospital where she remained until she died.

He then left the residence and drove to a friend’s house. The friend took him to Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Russell, Ky. He was later taken to a Louisville, Ky., hospital, where he remained until June 5 when he was discharged and taken to a Louisville detection facility. He was returned to Ironton earlier this week.

Tom Wilcox was arraigned Friday in Lawrence County Municipal Court. He is lodged in the Scioto County Jail under a $10 million bond.

The couple’s two children are in the care of Amy Wilcox’s family.
