4Briggs Lawrence County Public Library announces new hours at all locations.
4Main Library, Ironton: Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
4Southern Branch Library, South Point: Monday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
4Chesapeake Branch Library: Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
4Eastern Branch Library, Proctorville: Monday through Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
4Northern Branch Library, Symmes Valley: Summer hours are Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. New school-year hours have yet to be determined.
4Children of all ages are invited to join the 2009 Children’s Summer Reading Club with the theme, “Be Creative at Your Library.” Club members are eligible to win weekly prizes for meeting their reading goals. Families are invited to sign up at their local Briggs Library location.
4In addition to the reading club, children are invited to attend weekly programs for storytelling, crafts, games, music, special guests and fun with friends.
4Preschool Storytimes, recommended for children age three through kindergarten, are scheduled Mondays at 11 a.m. at Ironton and Symmes Valley, Tuesdays at 11 a.m. at Chesapeake, Wednesdays at 11 a.m. at South Point and Thursdays at 11 a.m. at Proctorville.
4Creative Readers programs, recommended for elementary school children, are scheduled Mondays at 2 p.m. at Symmes Valley and 6 p.m. at Ironton, Tuesdays at 2 p.m. at Chesapeake, Wednesdays at 2 p.m. at South Point and Thursdays at 2 p.m. at Proctorville.
4Toddler Times, recommended for children up to age three and their care givers, are scheduled Tuesdays at 11 a.m. at Ironton and Thursdays at 11 a.m. at Proctorville.
4Creative kids are also invited to learn new art techniques beyond crayons and glue sticks at Miss Jan’s Art Class at the Ironton library. Children in grades K-2 are invited to the class at 2 p.m. Wednesdays. Children in grades 3-5 are invited to the class at 3 p.m. Wednesdays.
4Summer reading clubs are open to teens and adults as well. Readers may complete a variety of reading activities to enter weekly drawings during the clubs which run to July 31. Details are available at all Briggs Library locations.
4Teens in grades 6 through 12 are invited to learn how to create temporary henna tattoos at the Northern Branch Library in the Symmes Valley MultilevelSchool at 3 p.m. Wednesday. All attendants will need signed permission slips (available at all Briggs Library locations).
4It’s time to show off and celebrate the history of your best fuzzy friend. The Ironton library will host a Teddy Bear Parade and history discussion at the library on Tuesday at 6 p.m. Certificates will be given to the cutest, smallest, largest and more categories. Everyone’s invited to participate.
The “Briggs Theater Presents” film series continues at the Ironton library this week. Everyone’s invited to bring a snack and a friend to enjoy “Phantom of the Opera” on Monday at 5:30 p.m. and “Elmer Gantry” on Saturday at 2 p.m.
4Are you a backyard bird watcher? Learn how to identify birds and invite more birds to your yard at a Coffee, Tea and Chat series presentation at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the Chesapeake library and 2 p.m. Thursday, June 24 at the Proctorville library
4Everyone’s invited to participate in a Briggs Library book discussion group. Three groups meet this week. The Ironton library afternoon group meets at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday to talk about “Home to Holly Springs” by Jan Karon. On Thursday, the Sybene Senior Center group will discuss “Betty Zane” by Zane Grey at 12:45 p.m. and the Proctorville library group will discuss “Swine Not” by Jimmy Buffet at 2 p.m.
