Library looking for artists, musicians

IRONTON — Briggs Lawrence County Public Library has scheduled two events to showcase local artists and musicians. The first, a local art show, is scheduled for Saturday, July 18 at the Ironton Branch. The second is an open mike and karaoke night scheduled for Thursday, July 23 at 6 p.m. at the Ironton Branch.

“This year’s statewide summer reading theme, Express Yourself at the Library, inspired the two programs,” said Lori Shafer, adult services librarian. “Our children’s summer reading program this year is featuring music, dance and art, and we thought our adult patrons deserved an opportunity to showcase their talents as well.”

The local art show program will be held in the Ironton Branch meeting room on Saturday, July 18 from 10 am to 5 pm. Artists of any format are welcome to show their work, although entries are limited to 3 works per artist. Artists are encouraged to bring their artwork in to the Library and bring easels to display their work if they choose to do so.

DAV offering help for veterans

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — So many veterans feel confused about benefits and services they’ve earned.

There’s so much to know…and so many changes from one year to the next. That’s why the nonprofit D-A-V and the Harley-Davidson Foundation have teamed up to offer help.

The DAV Mobile Service Office will be at Charlie’s Harley-Davidson, 408 Fourth St., Huntington, W.Va., from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on July 11, to personally provide the best counseling and claim filing assistance available.

This event is part of the nationwide Harley’s Heroes tour and is free to all veterans and members of their families.
