COAL GROVE — Despite threatening weather all around Lawrence County, the Rocky Top Raceway persevered and was able to complete last Friday’s races.

It was scheduled to be “Meet the Drivers Night” but because of the threatening weather, the festivities had to be postponed until July 10.

Tim Dohm and Jackie Boggs led the field to the green to start the 25-lap Late Model A-Main. Boggs grabbed the lead going into turn one with Dohm right on his tail.

Dohm stayed right on the rear end of Boggs’ machine for the races first eight laps until Whitesburg, Ky., driver Anthony Adams got by him and moved into the second spot.

As the race moved into it’s second half, Boggs started to pull away while the best battle on track was a three-way race for second between Adams, Dohm, and Rick Combs. Nobody could catch Jackie Boggs though as he pulled away to take his fourth feature win of the season.

Anthony Adams finished second with Tim Dohm third, Rick Combs fourth, and John Melvin fifth. Dohm and Boggs won Engines Inc. heat races.

Todd Robinson took the lead at the start of the $1,000 to win Modified A-Main.

Robinson dominated the feature event until a caution flag flew on the final lap that resulted in a one lap dash for the $1,000.

On the restart, second place runner Craig Christian got to the inside of Robinson as they battled side-by-side for the lead going into turn one.

The two remained side-by-side down the backstretch and into turn three. Off of turn four, the two bumped and drag raced to the start/finish line with Robinson taking the win by two feet.

Christian finished second with Dave Jamison third, Adam Jordan fourth, and Eddie Harmon fifth. Robinson won the dash race while Jordan and Jamison won Engines Inc. heat races.

Wayne Hughes took the lead at the start of the Bomber A-Main and dominated to claim his third feature win of the season. Fourth place starter David Dunn moved into the second spot early on and challenged Hughes for a few laps before settling for a second place finish.

Wade Miller finished third with Steve Karr fourth and Phil Rice fifth. Hughes and Chris Maynard won Engines Inc. heat races.

Wheelersburg’s Chris Stone dominated the 15 lap Mod Lite A-Main to claim his fourth feature win on the season. Randy Armes finished second with Mark Noel third, J. C. Wurts fourth, and Tracy Jones fifth.

Harold Kuhn and Stone won Engines Inc. heat races.

Rocky Top Raceway will be off on Friday but racing will continue on Friday, July 10, for the re-scheduled “Meet the Drivers Night.”

On the card will be Late Models-$1,500 to win, Modifieds-$650 to win, Mod Lites-$300 to win (with 15+ cars), and Bombers running under K-C Raceway Hobby Stock rules for $350 to win. For more information visit www.rockytopraceway.net.
