COAL GROVE — After rains in the morning, early afternoon, and late afternoon washed out the original date for the “Engines Inc. 50” on July 17, the Rocky Top Raceway is now set to run it’s biggest race of the season on Friday.
Over the past two seasons, many of the best Dirt Late Model drivers in the country have competed for the Engines Inc. 50 win.
Those drivers include Eddie Carrier Jr., Steve Francis, Ray Cook, Steve Shaver, Rick Aukland, Wayne Chinn, Josh McGuire, Jackie Boggs, all three Conley’s, Wayne Chinn, Chuck Harper, Ryan Markham, John Blankenship, Tim Dohm, and Dave Hess Jr. among others.
The two previous Engines Inc. 50’s at Rocky Top Raceway have produced two of the most exciting nights of racing in RTR history.
The first Engines Inc. 50 was held on July 13, 2007 and was sanctioned by the Independent Racing Series. In a great race, former World of Outlaws champion Steve Francis passed Tim Dohm with four laps to go to become the inaugural winner.
The following season, Eddie Carrier Jr. passed Josh McGuire after 20 laps of side-by-side racing for the lead to win the second Engines Inc. 50.
Two special event Late Model races have already been held at RTR this season. Those two races produced two incredible finishes with Wayne Chinn winning the Buckeye Nationals back on April 24 and Kenny Christy winning the Summer Sizzler back on June 19.
Along with the special event races, every weekly Late Model race at RTR has been very exciting. All signs point towards another classic race on Friday.
General admission to the “Engines Inc. 50” is $20 and $5 for kids ages 7-12. Children six and under are free. Pit admission is $30.
Gates open at 4 p.m. with Hot Laps at 7:30. Along with the $5,000 to win Late Model special, Modifieds, Bombers, and Mod Lites will also be racing for regular purses. For more information visit www.rockytopraceway.net.
