PINE GROVE — This is what you call a good day at the office. Or in the case of the Ironton Fighting Tigers, at the golf course.
Ironton had three golfers shoot under 40 and all six were 41 and under as they won a tri-match against West Union and Portsmouth on Wednesday.
The Fighting Tigers posted a 151 team score with West Union at 171 and Portsmouth 191.
“We were solid tonight,” said Ironton coach Jeff Kerns. “All the guys played well and contributed.
“Obviously, we’re continuing to improve. We had a very strong performance from our guys. When your high score is 41, that’s pretty impressive.”
Josh Zornes sizzled with an even par 35 to claim medalist honors. Andy Holtzapfel was just two over at 37 and Mason Weisgarber shot a 39. Josh Mullins and Josh Cooke each fired a 40 and Jonathan Williams carded a 41.
“Josh put in a lot of hard work this summer and it’s starting to pay off for him,” said Kerns.
Ironton plays in the Huntington (W.Va.) Invitational Saturday beginning at 8 a.m.
