CHILLICOTHE — Two of the most important things in football are field position and turnovers. Those two things proved to be the downfall of the Rock Hill Redmen.

The Zane Trace Pioneers took advantage of excellent field position all night and capitalized on two turnovers to beat the Redmen 52-13 Friday.

“We gave them good field position all evening and they capitalized on it. We got in a hole and they made plays,” said Redmen coach Todd Knipp. “We turned the ball over twice and they had zero. That was big.”

Kirk Maxwell ran 13 times for 138 yards and threw for 67 more for Zane Trace.

Zane Trace started deep in Rock Hill territory on its first three possessions.

The Pioneers scored on a 9-yard run by Chris Finley to lead 7-0 at the end of the first quarter.

Zane Trace went up 14-0 on a 2-yard run by Derek Cochenour but Rock Hill closed to within 14-6 on a 1-yard run by Steve Lewis.

But the Pioneers got two more scores and led 26-6 at the break.

The lead went to 46-6 in the fourth quarter before the Redmen used a 17-yard touchdown pass from Will McCollister to Mitchell Davenport.

McCollister finished 12 of 23 for 166 yards and an interception. Lewis ran 18 times for 92 yards.
