Panthers, Dragons get VB wins
CHESAPEAKE — It’s always nice to see something good, especially when you haven’t seen it for awhile.
Using a big comeback from a 12-point deficit in the second set, the Chesapeake Lady Panthers battled past the St. Joseph Female Flyers in three sets Monday, 25-16, 26-24 and 25-16.
“In the past five years, that’s the biggest comeback we’ve had. St. Joe gave an awesome effort and we stayed in there and battled,” said Chesapeake coach Dana Edwards. “I saw a lot of good things happen on the court tonight.”
Courtney Heffner has five ace serves in the first set. Sara Rice, Cassie Rucker and Heffner sparked Chesapeake’s key rally from 12 points down to win the second set. Heffner then has six aces and Rucker five in the final game.
In the reserve match, Chesapeake won 23-25, 25-15 and 25-15 as McWhorter had seven kills and four aces and Bartrum five aces.
