Greta Owens Joseph, 82, of Ironton passed away Saturday, Sept. 5, 2009, at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Ashland, Ky. The Lawrence County native was born March 8,1927, the daughter of the late Jarvey B. and Dove Pancake Owens. She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Joseph, to whom she was married for 45 years.
Mrs. Joseph attended Hecla schools and was a cook at Rock Hill #2 Elementary School for 38 years. She loved cooking and the children who always made her day. Mrs. Joseph was also a member of the Woodland Freewill Baptist Church.
In addition to husband and parents, she is preceded in death by two sons, Walter David Joseph and Gary Lee Joseph; a daughter, Kathy Jo Joseph; a stepson, Charles Edward Joseph; six brothers: Eugene Owens, Rosco Owens, Thurman Owens, Vernon Paul Owens, Orlyn Owens, and Odell Owens; and six sisters, Audrey Thierry, Garnet Owens Summers, Jeanette Owens Crabtree, Barbara Owens Irvin, Joyce Owens Estep, and Wanda Faye Owens.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Byron Hoffee of Marietta; two sons and daughter-in-law, Larry and Kandy Joseph of Ironton, and Vernon Joseph of Lancaster; two stepsons, Robert and Aileen Joseph of Rocky Ridge, and Harvey and Betty Joseph of Pedro; 11 Grandchildren, Tim “Justin” Joseph, Melissa and Bill McDaniel, Jason and Courtney Joseph, all of Ironton, Carissa and Seann Anderson, Alesha Hoffee, Tasha and Andy Thomas, all of Marietta, and Kathy Hamilton, Dee Dee Joseph, Wesley Joseph and Jeremy Joseph all of Xenia; five great-grandchildren, Tanner and Madison McDaniel,  Wylie and Zane Anderson and Coletyn Thomas;
one brother: Oscar Owens of Ironton; one sister, Alynda Crank of Proctorville  and numerous nieces of nephews.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Phillips Funeral Home, with Rev. Leon Dalton officiating. Burial will follow in Sugar Creek Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday from 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home. To offer condolences to the family please visit, www.phillipsfuneralhome.net.
