Dragons XC takes win at Gallipolis meet

RIO GRANDE — With seven in the top 20, the Fairland Dragons were number one among 12.

Fairland had 38 points to win the 12-team Gallipolis Invitational Cross Country Meet held Tuesday at the University of Rio Grande.

Logan was second with 95 points followed by Wheelersburg with 104, Piketon 116, Alexander 145, Wellston 146, Beaver Eastern 179, Coal Grove and Meigs 208 and Gallipolis 212. River Valley and Wayne, W.Va., did not have full squads.

However, Wayne’s Forrest Reed was the overall winner with 17:32.2 time.

Fairland was led by Joe Stewart who was third overall with a 17:47.9 clocking. Teammate Wayne Moore was sixth at 18:20.1 and Logan Rowe eighth with an 18:42.0 time.

Garrett Wireman was 12th with 19:07.1 time followed by Raine Wireman two spots back at 19:11.7. Jesse Emery was 18th at 19:56.2 and Ryan Stewart was No. 20 with a 20:11.7 time.

Also running for Fairland were Sam Nelson who was No. 23 at 20:24.8, Logan Froelich 26th at 20:29.1, Rob Hinshaw ran 20:45.6 to finish 31st, Hunter Gibson 43rd at 22:13.9 and Zach Fannin 45th at 22:15.4.

Placing 51-53 were Dylan Hannon (22:33.0), Brenden Tweel (22:33.0) and Ian Beaty (22:45.7). At No. 77 was Alexis Guzman (25:09.9), 87th was Fredinand Meyer-Erlach (27:00.6) and Trey Davis (28:334.9) was 90th.

Coal Grove got a strong performance from Jacob Pauley who ran an 18:09 to finish fourth overall.

Tanner Lykins was 50th at 22:32, Roger Forrest ran 23:37 to place 62nd, Codi Matney was 75th at 24:49, Brandon Doyle was No. 78 with a 25:25 clocking, Nate Sullivan was No. 82 with a 25:50 time and Codey Erwin was at No. 85 with a 26:02 time.

Gallipolis won the girls’ meet with just 18 points followed by Fairland with 59 points. Meigs was next with 82, Piketon 87 and Logan 113.

Peyton Adkins of Gallipolis had the best overall time at 19:45.2.

Megan Ashton ran a 22:09.8 time to place No. 6 overall and lead the Lady Dragons.

Carrie Tanner was 11th overall with a 23:03.3 time for Fairland. Tori Hutchinson was No. 15 with a 24:21 time, Mariah Chaffin 22nd with a 25:39 clocking and Grace Skiles ran a 27:14 to place No. 32.

Presley Lewis was 47th after running a 30:45, Amanda Cooper was 53rd with a 32:15 time and Leah Sowards was No. 57 with a 38:10.7 time.

Coal Grove had one runner as Kim Short ran 31:15 to place No. 50.
