MANCHESTER— Time was on their side, but the points were on our side.

The Manchester Greyhounds owned the time of possession 35:32 to Symmes Valley’s 12:28, but the Vikings made the most of their time in a 41-6 win Friday.

The Vikings (3-1) returned two interceptions for touchdowns and ran back a punt for a score en route to the easy win.

“Our defense played well, especially after the first couple of series. Manchester did some things we’re not used to seeing and our kids did a good job adjusting,” said Vikings’ coach Rusty Webb.

“Our offensive line did an outstanding job and the backs did a super job blocking for each other. Our young kids came in and played well when they got their opportunities.”

The Vikings didn’t have the ball long on offense but still ran 44 times for 320 yards. They had 408 total yards.

Jacob Patterson picked off a pass less than two minutes into the game and ran it back 46 yards for a touchdown and it was 7-0.

The Vikings went 89 yards on just two plays as Cody Myers hit Tyler Easthom on a 56-yard touchdown pass.

Grant Foster then blocked a punt and Wayne Meade ran it back 46 yards for a score and a 21-0 lead.

Symmes Valley drove 52 yards in five plays early in the second quarter with Kyle Bowen capping the drive as he scored on an 8-yard run and it was 28-0.

Evan Herrell dashed 33 yards for a touchdown with 3:42 left in the half to end a quick three-play, 60-yard drive. Myers’ fifth conversion kick put the lead at 35-0.

Neither team scored in the third quarter and the Vikings only score in the fourth quarter was a 23-yard interception return by Austin Owens.

Manchester (0-4) avoided the shutout when Dylan Hanson bolted 64 yards for a touchdown with 2:23 to play.

Justin Payne ran twice for 54 yards and Herrell twice for 48 yards to lead the Vikings’ balanced ground game.
