Mrs. Opal Marie Shelton Barker, 80, of Pedro, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, Sept. 19, 2009.
She was born June 4, 1929, in Ashland, Ky., the daughter of the late Albert and Goldie Shelton. She was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church in Ironton, where she was a member of the choir. Opal was also a member of the Lawrence County Garden Club and the Lawrence County Homemakers Club. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Leodia Easterling and Clemitine Jay Shenault; a brother, Bernard Shelton and a nephew, Eddie Shelton.
Opal is survived by her loving husband, Hardy Barker, whom she married July 5, 1953; a daughter and son-in-law, Chela and David Burd of Pedro; two sons and daughters-in-law, Hardy, Jr. and Tammy Barker of Pedro, and Terry and Debbie Barker of Pedro; her grandchildren, Tony and Kate Barker of Ironton, Bridgette and Wes Conley of Covington, Ky., and Jason and Melissa Barker of Pedro and a great-grandchild, Lanie Conley of Covington, Ky.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Tracy Brammer Funeral Home in Ironton with Dr. William Young officiating. Interment will follow at Dixon Cemetery. Family will receive friends 6 – 8 pm Tuesday at the funeral home.
