Coal Grove (3-1) at

Greenup County (1-3)

LLOYD, Ky. — It’ll be a new opponent with a new weapon.

The Hornets play Greenup County for the first time since the 1982-83 seasons. Coal Grove won both games, 41-6 and 20-6.

But when the Hornets roll into Greenup County this time they will see a running back who wasn’t with the team prior to just two weeks ago, Rashard Carter who moved to Greenup after being dismissed from Ashland’s team.

The speedy, quick-cutting Carter gives the Musketeers a big-play threat, but the Hornets have plenty game-breakers themselves.

Daniel “Oakie” Haynes has 11.0 speed in the 100 meters and returned a kickoff for a touchdown last week. Boo Woods has also returned a kickoff for a score.

Wheelersburg (3-1)

at Rock Hill (0-4)

PEDRO — This should be the Army vs. the Air Force.

The Wheelersburg Pirates prefer to keep the ball on the ground and its’ been effective. The Pirates rely on the running of Brandon Schankweiler and quarterback Tyler Lang.

When Lang does throw, he has a big target in 6-foot-5 Andy Stegman.

The Rock Hill offense is just the opposite. The Redmen go to the air and think run second.

Quarterback Will McCollister has two strong targets in Mitchell Davenport and Trey Wilds. Steve Lewis has given the running game a spark this season to help create some balance in the attack.

But the defense faces the toughest task. The Redmen must slow down an offense that in the last three weeks as beaten South Point 49-0, Portsmouth 68-14 and Cleveland Villa Angela-St. Joseph 45-2.

Chesapeake (1-3) at

Portsmouth West (3-1)

WEST PORTSMOUTH — The Chesapeake Panthers had trouble stopping West’s big fullback Dale Swords last season. Although Swords has graduated, his replacement this season is a load himself.

Chesapeake must contend with the power running of Trevon Pendleton who has more than 600 yards this season including 186 last week in a 34-21 win over Rock Hill

But the Senators are expected to be without their other top runner, Mark Murphy who suffered a concussion last week.

McDermott Northwest (2-2)

At Symmes Valley (3-1)

WILLOW WOOD — This time it won’t be easy.

In the past, the Northwest Mohawks have been an easy win for most teams. But Symmes Valley coach Rusty Webb knows that won’t be the case this Friday.

“Northwest is much improved. This is one of the best Northwest teams that we’ve played,” said Webb.

The Mohawks’ two losses were 19-7 to Piketon and 27-17 to Sciotoville East. Turnovers hurt Northwest against Piketon as they suffered three interceptions and they held a 17-14 lead at the half over East.

Northwest is led by the running tandem of Taylor Horsley and Luke Brown.

South Point (0-4) at

Lucasville Valley (3-1)

LUCASVILLE — Pointers’ coach Doug Shilot may need to open his own hospital wing.

South Point was without leading rusher Doug Dillon last week and quarterback Kyle Dickess has been out with an injury.

The Indians have big-play ability and balance in their offense led by quarterback Zach Utley, running back Alex Holcomb and receivers Blake Yates and Luke Keller.
