Nathan Kerns will remember his first day playing in a collegiate golf tournament.

The Marshall Thundering Herd freshman golfer played in his first college tournament Saturday and Sunday in The Wolverine at Radrick Farms, hosted by the University of Michigan.

Golfers play a grueling 36 holes on the first day and 18 on the second day. Kerns opened with a 2-over par 74 as he had four birdies and six bogeys.

But after going over the course the first time, Kerns came back to shoot a 3-under 69 on the next 18 holes as he had four birdies and only one bogey.

On Sunday, Kerns had two birdies but had 10 bogeys for an 8-over par. For the tournament, the former Ironton All-Ohio golfer tied for 39th place in the 78-man field. His 223 total was second on the team to Bennett Boyer who finished with a 217.

Marshall — who finished 14th as a team — will play at the Xavier Invitational this coming weekend.
