Fifty to 100 attorneys from 11 southern Ohio counties will converge on Ironton Friday for the annual Ohio State Bar Association District 8 luncheon meeting.
Ironton’s moment in the spotlight is a rare event, local attorneys said. No one can remember when Lawrence County played host to the annual meeting.
“Obviously, we’re excited to play host to the district. We love having everyone come down and see Ironton and we like to be able to bring business to local establishments,” according to Mark McCown, district 8 representative on the OSBA Board of Governors. McCown will preside over the meeting; fellow attorney Chris Delawder, president of the Lawrence County Bar Association, will deliver welcome remarks.
The president of the Ohio State Bar Association, Barbara Howard, is scheduled to speak about issues facing the legal profession today.
West Union attorney Charles H. Wilson will be honored for his 50 years in practice.
Albany attorney Trecia Kimes-Brown will receive the OSBA Foundation Community Service Award for lawyers aged 40 and under. Members will also elect one member to the OSBA Council of delegates.
District 8 includes Adams, Brown, Gallia, Highland, Jackson, Lawrence, Pickaway, Pike, Ross, Scioto and Vinton counties.
Following the luncheon, attorneys may attend an optional continuing legal education seminar.
The luncheon meeting will be at Austyn’s restaurant.
