SOUTH POINT — Injury is becoming a four-letter word for the South Point Pointers.

Players such as Doug Dillon, Kyle Dickess and Greg Taylor have all been among the injured Pointers this season. They all played last week, but add defensive back and wide receiver Matt Button to the list.

Button suffered a broken leg Tuesday in a soccer game against Ironton St. Joseph.

South Point can’t afford the loss of depth in the secondary in the wake of the passing performance by Coal Grove’s Evan Ferguson last week. Ferguson was 8-of-11 for three touchdowns and a school-record single game mark of 232 yards.

But the Hornets are more than just Ferguson. Coal Grove should be healthy this week which means their backfield depth will have Frank Delawder and Bubba Woods at fullback and Oakie Haynes and Boo Wood at tailback.

Rock Hill (0-6, 0-1) at

Chesapeake (1-5, 0-1)

CHESAPEAKE — Somebody is going to get an Ohio Valley Conference win.

The Panthers showed some offense last week in a 50-27 loss to Coal Grove. Chesapeake had 326 total yards despite losing and most of the yardage came on the ground.

The Panthers’ ground game is bad news for the Redmen who lost to Fairland last week as the Dragons ran 49 times for 352 yards.

Rock Hill will need some balance in its attack to beat the Panthers, but more importantly the Redmen must play better defensively after allowing nearly 500 yards offense against Fairland.

Although each team lost last week, a win puts them back in the title chase. Rock Hill still has preseason favorite Coal Grove to play and Chesapeake ends the season against rival and OVC top contender Fairland.

River Valley (0-6, 0-1)

At Fairland (4-2, 1-0)

PROCTROVILLE — The one could get away from the Raiders early.

River Valley has allowed nearly 38 points a game this season and Fairland is scoring at a 28.3 points per game clip.

Ouch.

River Valley couldn’t hold off the South Point pass rush last week. The Pointers had five quarterback sacks as they stymied the Raiders.

Double ouch.

But there is still some hope. The Raiders did take a 7-6 lead in the first quarter against the Pointers before the game got away.
