PEDRO — No need for any psychiatric analysis. The Coal Grove Hornets are very grounded.

The Hornets had two runners gain more than 100 yards, another just miss and they picked up more than 400 as a team en route to a 37-12 Ohio Valley Conference win Friday over the Rock Hill Redmen.

Haynes ran 20 times for 176 yards and two touchdowns, and Delawder had 123 yards on 18 carries. Boo Woods added 96 yards on eight carries and scored twice as Coal Grove raced up 440 rushing yards and 487 total yards.

The win not only keeps Coal Grove unbeaten in the OVC at 3-0 but also their playoff hopes in Region 19 of Division V.

Coal Grove (7-1) got on the scoreboard quickly to start the game with a 62-yard, five-play drive. Woods had three carries including 23 yards for a touchdown. He added the conversion run and it was 8-0.

Woods got free later in the quarter as he raced 52 yards for a touchdown. Bubba Wood ran for the conversion and it was 16-0 with 4:21 on the clock.

It was Haynes’ turn to make a big play as he bolted 60 yards for a touchdown on the first play of the second quarter and the lead was now 22-0.

But the Redmen (1-7, 1-2) answered with a scoring drive late in the quarter capped by quarterback Will McCollister’s 1-yard run. The conversion pass failed and it was 22-6 with only 15 seconds left in the half.

Coal Grove had a 62-yard drive deep into Rock Hill territory in the third quarter, but the Redmen held on a fourth-and-1 at the 4-yard line.

Rock Hill came back to score with just 2:46 left in the quarter on a 3-yard run by McCollister and cut the deficit to 22-12.

The Redmen hurt themselves in the fourth quarter as they fumbled and the Hornets recovered at the Rock Hill 22. Delawder scored a few plays later on a 1-yard run and it was 28-12. Evan Ferguson passed to Delawder for the conversion and it was 30-12.

Rock Hill turned the ball back over on downs and Coal Grove added an insurance score when Haynes went into the end zone from 3 yards out. Aaron Dickess kicked the conversion with 1:56 to play.

Rock Hill managed just 54 yards rushing on 31 attempts. McCollister was 14-of-32 for 158 yards and Mitchell Davenport caught five passes for 75 yards.
