If you plan to rob a bar, perhaps you shouldn’t go where everybody knows your name.

That was advice that an Ironton man must have never received if he in fact committed the crime that authorities allege.

David W. Farris, 51, of Ironton, was charged with one count of armed robbery and two counts of felonious assault in connection with the Wednesday night holdup of the Marlow on South Third Street.

Ironton Police Capt. Dan Johnson said just before midnight, a Marlow bartender called police and said she had been robbed.

“We found the victim on the floor with blood on her face,” Johnson said.

Johnson said the bartender had been hit on the head with a handgun but was able to tell authorities she knew who the robber was. Farris was arrested at his residence.

The bartender was treated at an area hospital and then released. A patron at the bar was also hit on the head. No information is available about this person’s condition.

Farris was arraigned Thursday in Ironton Municipal Court.

Judge O. Clark Collins set bond at $50,000 and appointed attorney Mike Gleichauf to represent Farris.

A preliminary hearing was scheduled for Oct. 29. Farris remains in the Lawrence County Jail.

The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office and Lawrence County Drug and Major Crimes Task Force assisted the city police with the investigation.
