Authorities were called at approximately 8:45 a.m. to determine what the substance.
“We’re pretty sure it’s road salt but when it turned blue and they said the road was heaving up, that’s what got the scare going,” Coal Grove Fire Department Assistant Chief Jay Sherman said.
As of 9:30 a.m., hazardous materials teams from the Ironton and Ashland, Ky., fire departments were testing the crystal substance to officially determine what it is.
Traffic was detoured for approximately an hour.
