VERNON, Fla. — Mrs. Rosa Marylene “Sugar” Willis, 93, of Vernon, died Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2009, in Panama City.
She was a native of Ohio, the daughter of John Gilbert and Eva Gornall but had resided in Panama City and the Vernon area since 1952. She was a devoted wife and companion, assisting her husband, The Rev. Frank Willis in singing, evangelistic, pastoral church work and was always at her husband’s side.
She graduated from high school in Ohio and was employed by Curtis Wright Corp. (Navy plane factory) during World War II. She was a member of the Abigail Free Will Baptist Church.
She is survived by her brother, Col. (Ret.) Lowell Gornall of Atlanta, Ga., and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Her parents, two brothers and a sister preceded her in death. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Abigail Free Will Baptist Church in Vernon with the Rev. Troy Lee Walsingham officiating. Her body will be interred beside her husband in the New Hope Methodist Church Cemetery, south of Vernon. The family will receive friends at 10 a.m. Tuesday prior to the service at the church.
