FRANKLIN FURNACE — Adrianne Blankenship was just trouble for Sciotoville East. She was double trouble.
Blankenship had a huge double-double as the Green Lady Bobcats beat the East Lady Tartans 55-44 Monday to give head coach Bucky Bridges his first career victory.
Blankenship racked up 27 points and an amazing 24 rebounds as Green won their Southern Ohio Conference and regular season opener.
East took a 15-9 lead in the first quarter, but Blankenship had 9 points in the second quarter and Green trailed 26-22 at the break.
Blankenship got 5 points in the third quarter but went to the bench with foul trouble. Lauren Jones took over and scored 8 of her points as Green rallied to go up 41-33.
“(East) gave us a little challenge. I told the girls to play four minutes at a time and see what happens. They responded,” said Walters.
The Lady Bobcats converted 9 of 12 free throws in the fourth quarter to seal the win.
Walters was glad to get his first win, but he was happier for his team.
“It feels good. Just to see the girls respond and play hard says a lot about them. They all showed up to play and I can’t say anything bad about them tonight,” Walters said.
Jones finished with 13 points and 8 rebounds while freshman Carlee Pollard had 7 rebounds.
Toni Lang led Eastwith 15 points.
Green hosts New Boston Thursday in a league game.
