Jerry Ray Alford, 60, of Ironton, passed away Monday, Nov. 30, 2009, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky.
The Ironton native was born April 15, 1949, the son of the late Leonard and Mary Alford Brown. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Rucker Alford, whom he married Nov. 4, 1999.
Mr. Alford attended Coal Grove High School and was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a retired school bus driver for the Ashland City School System and Ironton Open Door School. He was of the Baptist faith, a former member of the Boyd County Masonic Lodge and the Ironton Eagles Club.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two uncles, Richard Alford and James Alford; and a cousin, Sharon Sizemore.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Tiffany and Justin Huffman and Tina and Ray Jenkins, all of Ashland, Ky., and Linda and Richard Neal of South Point; a son, Von Blevins of Sandy Hook, Ky.; a grandson whom he raised in his home, Steven T. Hicks of Ironton; 12 grandchildren; special cousins, James and Regina Sizemore and Stan and Judy Martin; and wonderful friends, Jason and Beth Bloomfield, whom he thought of as family.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home with Rev. Leon Dalton officiating. Burial will follow in Sugar Creek Cemetery. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. To offer condolences to the family, please visit www.phillipsfuneralhome.net.
