ACTC theater float wins award

ASHLAND, Ky. — The Ashland Community and Technical College Theatre Program float won second place in the annual Ashland Christmas Parade held Nov. 24.

The 40-foot float was designed on a Dickens theme to commemorate the theater’s 16th holiday production of “A Christmas Carol.”

The float depicted a Victorian Era dining room with a family welcoming others to their home.

Features included a 9-foot Christmas tree, fireplace and large dining table decorated with more 5000 lights.

The float was designed by Edward Figgins, associate professor and Director of Theater, with fabric designs by costume designer Paula Krepsik and display signs by student Stephanie Cook.

Cast members of “A Christmas Carol” decorated the float and accompanied the float in the parade, wearing their costumes.

More than 20,000 people watched the parade which featured 10 divisions of floats, marching bands, pageant queens and group presentations on the theme, “I’ll Be Home for Christmas.”
