KITTS HILL — Mae Marie McDonie, 82, of Kitts Hill went to be with the Lord on Dec. 5, 2009. She was born on May 2, 1927, in Lawrence County, the daughter of Albert Jordan and Edith Mae Webb.
She graduated from Kitts Hill High School in 1945. She married William Ormond McDonie on June 8, 1947 at Storms Creek Missionary Baptist Church in Ironton.
She was a member of this church for more than 60 years. Aside from being a devoted homemaker, she also worked at public work including positions as a nurse’s aide at both Sunset and Bryant’s nursing homes.
Mae was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother, Homer Webb, sisters, Mamie Jane Webb, Maxine Baldwin, Ruth Lambert, and Betty Ashworth; and a son, William Joseph (Billy Joe) McDonie.
She is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Don and Evelyn Webb of Florida, as well as sisters: Janet McKenzie and Linda Spurlock and husband, Corbin.
Other survivors include four sons, five daughters-in-law, three daughters and three sons-in-law, Robert and Ruth McDonie, David and Susan McDonie, and Freda McDonie all of Waverly; Albert and Arlene McDonie of Chillicothe; Rick and Cindy McDonie of Ironton; Joyce and Ken Gullett of Winston-Salem, N.C.; Karen and Jerry Bailey of Kitts Hill; and Sharon and Bob Fuhr or Pedro.
Mrs. McDonie is also survived by 30 grandchildren, Michael McDonie and wife April, Lori Potter and husband Brian, Rebecca Fitzpatrick and husband Blake and David (Andy) McDonie of Chillicothe, Jennifer Skaggs and husband Bryan of Beavercreek; Wesley McDonie and wife Johnna, Daniel McDonie and wife Jolene, Robert (Rocky) McDonie and wife Jennifer, Charles (Eddie) McDonie, Samuel McDonie, and Benjamin McDonie all of Waverly, Robert (Bobby) McDonie of California, Victoria Tesh and husband Frank, Matthew Gullett and wife Gina, Lisa James and husband Kevin, Mary Beth Cobbler and husband Josh, Sara Huff and husband Joey, all of North Carolina, William (B.J.) and wife Christy of Colo., Amanda Gabehart and husband Travis of Franklin Furnace, Rickie McDonie of Ironton, Johnathon Kuehne, Stephen Kuehne, and Adam Kuehne of Kitts Hill, Heather Dempsey and husband Ken of Scottown, Joseph Fuhr and wife Rachel of Oak Hill, Joshua Fuhr and wife Emily of Mount Sterling, Ky., Jeremy Fuhr of Lexington, Ky., Hannah Fuhr, Haley Fuhr and Jordan Fuhr of Pedro.
Additional survivors are 30 great grandchildren, Brooke, Nicholas, Roman and Noah Tesh, Titus and Evanna Cobbler, Anna and Paige Huff, Crystal, Alex, Emily, Briley, and David James, Corey Huff, Chase and Caleb Skaggs, Morgan, Madison and Megan Gullett, Noah and Ava Potter, Sarah and Lucy Dempsey, Cora, Owen, Tennison, Tristan, and Christopher McDonie, Aiden Fitzpatrick, and Isaiah Fuhr, also surviving are many special friends and extended family.
Mae is also leaving her beloved church family at Storms Creek Missionary Baptist Church, with whom she loved to praise and serve our blessed Savior.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the Storms Creek Missionary Baptist Church in Ironton with the Rev. Jim Orrick officiating. Interment will follow in Woodland Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Wednesday at Phillips Funeral Home, and the body will lie in state one hour prior to the services at the church on Thursday.
