PROCTORVILLE — With their top two guns disabled, the Fairland Dragons reloaded with some different weapons.

Chad Fisher played sparingly due to an illness and Matt Bloomfield remained out with his injured hand in a cast. To compensate, Evan Salyers and Jon Baise scored 17 points each as Fairland beat the Raceland (Ky.) Rams 59-41 Friday.

“Baise stepped up and took Boomer’s place and the team did a great job feeding Evan Salyers so he could control the game inside tonight,” said Fairland coach John McClung.

“Eric Riley did a nice job off the bench guarding. Matt Campbell with 9 points and 10 rebounds was big. The kids really stepped up tonight.”

Baise scored 8 points and Salyers 5 as the Dragons (2-0) jumped out to a 21-12 first quarter lead.

Baise and Salyers had 7 points each in the second quarter while the defense held Raceland to just 4 points to open up a 37-16 halftime cushion.

“We controlled the tempo early and we did a good job rebounding the first quarter and got out on the break and forced the tempo,” said McClung.

“In the second quarter we clamped down in half-court defense and limited them to one shot.”

Salyers had 6 more points in the third quarter as the Dragons stretched the lead to 49-25.

Cody Barker had 14 points to lead the Rams (0-2).
