For 20 area needy kids, Santa Claus didn’t come in a reindeer-powered sleigh this year, he varoomed in on a Harley.

The Blue Knights Kentucky 8 Chapter bought presents for 10 Ohio children and 10 Kentucky children.

The Blue Knights is a motorcycle club for active and retired law enforcement officers. The Blue Knights Chapter Kentucky 8, based in eastern Kentucky, has members from both states.

The local chapter also donates money to local food banks and have done so in the past. This year the organization decided to reach out a little further during the holidays and provide not only the meal on the table but the gifts under the tree.

Members contacted the children’s services agencies in each state and obtained wish lists from underprivileged kids and then hit the stores to buy those gifts. Each child got necessities such as clothes and shoes and a toy or two as well.

“I had a blast getting kids what they wanted so their Christmas could be a little better,” Kentucky 8 Vice-President Steve Cartmell said.

“This is our way of helping out the community,” fellow Blue Knights member Aaron Bollinger agreed. “There are people in need who are having a hard time, with the economy the way it is right now.”
