MARY STURGILL

FORT COLLINS, Colo. — Mary Carolyn Sturgill, 70, of Fort Collins, passed away Thursday, Dec. 10, 2009, in Fort Collins.
The Ironton, Ohio, native was born April 10, 1939, the daughter of the late Aaron and Edna Johnson Saunders. She is survived by her husband, Charles Darvin Sturgill, whom she married Aug. 25, 1958, at Sugar Creek Missionary Baptist Church in Lawrence County, Ohio.
She was a 1957 graduate of Rock Hill High School, where she was class valedictorian. She served her community in school PTAs, as a Sunday School secretary and teacher, on church committees, and in church choirs. She was a former employee for Ashland Oil and Refining Company beginning in 1957 and quitting in 1960 to raise a family. She returned to work for Ashland Oil in 1977. She went on disability in 1992 and retired in 2004 with a total of thirty years of service.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Stephen Saunders.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Margaret Sturgill of Fort Collins, Colo.; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Lynn and Andy Sartain of Galloway, Ohio; three grandchildren, Natalia Sturgill, Aaron Sartain and Louis Sartain.
