Child abuser sentenced to 11 months in prison

An Ironton man accused of abusing an 11-month-old boy will go to prison for 11 months.

Andrew McClain, 22, of 817 Lawrence St., Ironton, pleaded guilty to one count of attempted child endangerment before Lawrence County Common Pleas Judge D. Scott Bowling. McClain was arrested in October after a family member of the child reported the boy was injured while in McClain’s care.

In another case, Kevin B. Pennington, 20, of 300 Township Road 108, Ironton, pleaded guilty to charges of breaking and entering and grand theft.

Bowling sentenced him to four years community control sanctions under intensive supervised probation (CCS/ISP) and six months electronically monitored home confinement. Bowling further ordered Pennington to pay $6,372 in restitution to Shamrock Carryout. Pennington was accused of breaking into that business earlier this year and stealing food.

Also Wednesday, Robert L. Watkins, 23, of 4647 County Road 52, Ironton, pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated trafficking in drugs.

Bowling sentenced him to 17 months in prison. With good behavior, Watkins may be eligible for judicial release after serving part of that sentence but will be released to a rehabilitation program at the STAR Community Justice Center. Watkins was also fined $2,500.
