COAL GROVE — Glen R. Markins, 70, of Coal Grove, passed away Monday, Dec. 28, 2009, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky.
The Lyra native was born Sept. 25, 1939, the son of the late Willard and Irene Roof Markins.
Mr. Markins attended Rock Hill Schools and was a U.S. Air Force veteran. He retired in 2004 from Sunoco Chemicals after 34 years as a mechanic and was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Loretta Carpenter Markins; a brother, Arthur Markins and a granddaughter, Ashley Markins.
He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Gina and Hatler Robinson of Coal Grove; three sons and daughters-in-law, Kevin and Gina Markins, Bob and Patty Markins and Billy and Kim Markins, all of Coal Grove; five brothers, Harold and Ginny Markins of Wilmington, N.C., Johnny and Carol Markins of Dayton, Paul and Janie Markins of Napoleon, Gary Markins of Lucasville, and Rick and Linda Markins of Midpoint; two sisters, Wilma Bare of Ironton and Thelma Shope of Pedro; eight grandchildren, Amanda Gully, D.J. Boyd, Sara Robinson, Brysen Markins, Chelsea Markins, Danny Markins, Savannah Markins and M’Aleigh Markins, all of Coal Grove; four great-grandchildren, Shyanne Gully, Aleigha Gully and Haleigh Markins all of Coal Grove and Kaden Markins of Ironton.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Phillips Funeral Home with Pastor Billy Markins officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by VFW Post 8850. Friends may call 6-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be George Rowe, Bob Self, Ralphie Waller, Dave Rice, Pat Boggs and Asa Sites. Honorary pallbearers will be D.J.
