HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Fred Tate has been hired as an assistant coach on defense at Marshall.

Marshall coach Doc Holliday announced Tate’s hiring Tuesday.

Tate coached defensive linemen for the past two seasons at Chattanooga. Before that he was an assistant at Southern Miss and East Carolina.

The native of Hattiesburg, Miss., played defensive end and tackle at Southern Miss in 1995 and 1996.
