CROWN CITY — The Chesapeake Lady Panthers were all on the same page, which helped them to knock the South Gallia Lady Rebels off the page.

Chesapeake’s cohesive play led to a 58-38 win over South Gallia Monday.

“All the girls play for one common goal. That’s been our key all year. We worked together and played good defense,” said Chesapeake coach Chris Ball.

Sarah Mayo led Chesapeake with 20 points, 3 steals and 3 assists. Kimmie Bennett had 19 points and 7 rebounds while Amanda Ruffner added 11 points, 14 rebounds and 7 blocked shots.

Maggie Smith chipped in 3 steals.

“South Gallia plays hard and they’re very athletic, but our girls played well. Bennett shot the ball real well and Mayo did a good job pushing us in transition,” said Ball.

“Ruffner set the tone on defense all four quarters and Allison Chapman, Maggie Smith and Courtney Heffner all did a nice job defensively.”

Bennett scored 6 points in the first quarter to the Lady Panthers an 18-10 lead. Chandra Canaday had 6 for the Lady Rebels.

Mayo got 7 points and Ruffner 6 in the second quarter as Chesapeake pulled away to a 33-19 halftime lead.
