Rock Hill finds way to get win over Rebels

PEDRO — Just when the Rock Hill Redmen needed something, they found it.

Rock Hill hit some clutch foul shots in the final minutes of the game to beat the South Gallia Rebels 47-44 Tuesday.

“At the end when things were tight, we found a way to win,” said Rock Hill coach Bob Wilds.

After South Gallia tied the game in the fourth quarter, Devin Darby drained a 3-pointer to give the Redmen the led for good.

Will McCollister and Sam Cooke each made two foul shots to extend the lead to 47-41.

The Rebels’ Levi Ellis hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to set the final score.

Darby had 5 points in the first quarter to take a 10-7 lead, but South Gallia came back to tie the game at the half, 20-20.

Jeremy Blagg scored 8 points in the third quarter to give Rock Hill a 35-29 lead as set up the exciting finish.

Darby finished with 10 points for the Redmen (4-6). McCollister, Cooke and Blagg each scored 9 points.

McCollister also had 7 rebounds and Cooke grabbed 5. Trey Wilds had 3 steals and Blagg had 3 assists.

“We didn’t rebound real well. We need to do a better job on the boards,” said coach Wilds.

Ellis scored 15 and Brandon Harrison 10 for South Gallia (1-8).

The Redmen hosts Coal Grove Friday in a makeup game and then travels to Portsmouth Clay on Saturday.
