Missing man found, returned home

SCOTTOWN — An elderly man reported missing Wednesday afternoon has been found safe and returned home to his family, Lawrence County Sheriff Jeff Lawless said Thursday.

Deputies were called to the Charles Shoemaker residence on State Route 218 Wednesday afternoon when family members discovered Charles Shoemaker was missing from his bedroom.

According to a prepared statement from the sheriff’s office, Shoemaker has health problems and may suffer from dementia.

Deputies and members of the Windsor Township Volunteer Fire Department searched the area for Shoemaker but could not find him.

They also alerted authorities in Cabell County, W.Va., about Shoemaker’s disappearance.

He was found at the Walmart on U.S. 60 in Huntington, W.Va., at approximately 11 a.m. Thursday. Family members told authorities he had wandered away from home in June 2009 and was also found in Huntington.
