SOUTH WEBSTER — Helen Marie Akers, 88, of South Webster passed away Sunday, Jan. 24, 2010, at a local health care center.
The Pine Grove native was born Feb. 23, 1921, the daughter of the late John L. and Cena Campbell Lewis. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William Harrison Akers, who passed away in 1975.
Mrs. Akers was a homemaker and a member of the Wayside Chapel. She lived all her life in Lawrence County.
In addition to her parents, and husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, John Akers and Andy Jack Akers; three brothers, Charley Lewis, Russell Lewis, and Bob Lewis; and two sisters, Francis Robinson and Juanita Clark, and a very special companion of 13 years, Clarence Murnahan.
She is survived by five daughters, Sylvia Buess of Reynoldsburg, Jane Watkins of Branford, Fla., America Moore of Pedro, Kathleen and Ellwood Middleton of South Webster and Ethel Marie Harmon of Spencer, Ind.; a son and daughter-in-law, Lee Roy and Ruth Akers of Pedro; 55 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; 27 great great grandchildren and a brother, Gerald Lewis of Pedro.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Phillips Funeral Home, with the Rev. James Cremeans officiating. Burial will follow in South Webster Cemetery. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. To offer condolences to the family, please visit www.phillipsfuneralhome.net.
