PEDRO — Hollie Estel Rogers, 81, of Pedro, died Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2010, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky.
The Denton, Ky., native was born Aug. 29, 1928, the son of the late John H. and Connie Cunningham Rogers. He is survived by his wife, Eula Carroll Rogers, whom he married Sept. 24, 1949.
He attended Decatur School and he retired in 1988 after 30 years of service from the State of Ohio Department of Transportation. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, square dancing and landscaping and was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Roy Estel Rogers; a great grandson, Dalton Barnette; his brothers, Raymond Rogers, Harold “Doc” Rogers, Joe Rogers, Lawrence Rogers, Sherman Rogers and Curt Rogers and his sisters, Hermie Elizabeth Rogers, Lexie Marie Bellew, Wilma Edith Roe, and Lottie Charline Phillips.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law, Diana and Terry Malone of Troy, Mich., Kristy and Bobby Smith of Charles Town, W.Va., Brenda and Bob Justice and Linda and Quincy Besco all of Ironton; a son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Harlene Rogers of Pedro; two brothers and a sister-in-law, James and Carol Jean Rogers of Pedro and Harold “Brownie” Rogers of Columbus; a sister, Kathryn Hutchinson of Ironton; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home, 1004 South Seventh Street, Ironton, Ohio with the Revs. George Cade and Jesse Sizemore officiating. Burial will follow in Rogers Cemetery. Friends may call 6-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Donations may be made to the Community Hospice Care Center, 2330 Pollard Road, Ashland, Ky. 41101.
