MARY HOBSON PLEASANT

Mary Willie Hobson Pleasant, 91, of Ironton, died Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2010, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky.
She was born Feb. 11, 1918, in Glen Wilton, Va., a daughter of the late Mayme and Howard Hobson Sr.
During her early years the family lived in Holden, W.Va., in Logan County. The family moved to Ironton in 1934 and Mary graduated from Ironton High School with the class of 1936.
Mary was married to the late Edward T. Pleasant. They were the parents of four children, one daughter, Shirley Chappell of Beckley, W.Va.; and three sons, Matthew “Eddie” and William “Bill” Pleasant, both of Columbus, and Robert Pleasant Sr. (Virginia) of Ironton; two grandsons raised in the home, Jeffrey Sr. (Ida) and Randolph Pleasant, both of Ironton; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews with one special niece, Alice Hobson Cooley; a host of cousins and one special friend, Mildred E. Turner of Arlington, Va. Mary was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Howard Jr. (Mable) Hobson.
She retired from the Lawrence County General Hospital in 1978 as an LPN. Mary was a member of the Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, where she was the Mother of the church.
Funeral will be Saturday at noon at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 6-9 p.m. Friday at O’Keefe-Baker Funeral Home and the body will lie in state two hours before the funeral at the church.
