PEDRO — A win by any other way is still a win.

Coach Jon Buchanan said his Lady Dragons didn’t have their “A” game, but Fairland was still able to come away with a 48-40 win over the Rock Hill Redwomen Thursday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

“We didn’t play exceptionally well, but we found a way to win,” said Buchanan.

Part of the problem was the number of fouls called and free throw attempts that prevented any flow to the game. The two teams combined to shoot 84 foul shots.

“We played pretty good defense and we rebounded well. A lot of the points we gave up were free throws,” said Buchanan.

Fairland converted 24-of-46 free throw attempts while Rock Hill was 15-of-40.

Rock Hill led 12-10 at the end of the first quarter as Tailor Guy scored 6 points. Fairland came back to take a 27-22 lead at the half.

Megan Brooks made 8-of-10 foul shots in the third quarter as Fairland increased its lead to 39-31. Courtney Duncan had 5 points to keep the Redwomen close.

Each team scored 9 points in the fourth quarter.

Brooks finished with 16 points to go with 4 steals and 2 assists. Fairland (4-12, 4-5) amassed 47 rebounds with Keri Napier grabbing 12 and Samantha Lamb 10.

Duncan had 12 points for the Redwomen (1-13,0-8) along with 2 assists. Brittany Thompson grabbed 11 of Rock Hill’s 32 rebounds.

Fairland hosts Wellston on Saturday.
