RV girls rally past Panthers

CHESHIRE — The beginning and end were good, but it didn’t go so well in between.
The Chesapeake Lady Panthers managed just 15 points over the second and third quarters and watched the River Valley Lady Raiders rally for a 46-41 Ohio Valley Conference win Thursday.
The loss was costly for the Lady Panthers who are now 11-6 overall and 6-2 in the OVC. South Point clinched a tie for the title thanks to Chesapeake’s loss.
Kimmie Bennett scored 21 points and Sarah Mayo 14 to lead Chesapeake.
Brooke Marcum had 14 points and Jessica Hager 10 for River Valley (7-10, 3-6).
Chesapeake used a 6-0 run at the end of the first quarter to take a 13-6 lead.
River Valley got within 4 points in the second quarter before Chesapeake pulled away to a 22-16 lead at the half.
The Lady Raiders went on an 11-2 run to start the second half and took the lead for good. It was 31-28 at the end of the third quarter.
River Valley led by as many as 10 points in the third quarter.
