Jeeps escape Flyers’ upset bid

The smell of upset was in the air. But then the South Webster Jeeps opened some air-freshener in the third quarter.

The St. Joseph Flyers had an upset going in the first half only to see the Jeeps rally in the second half for a 68-51 win Thursday.

South Webster — now 13-3 — led 12-8 at the end of the first half only to have the Flyers battle back to take a 27-24 halftime lead.

But the Jeeps came out strong in the second half and outscored the Flyers 25-10 to take a 49-37 lead.

Freshman Justin Mahlmeister scored 14 points to pace the Flyers (4-12). Tanner Riley had 12 points and Joseph “The Shoe” Unger added 9.

Wes Loop scored 23 points and Conner Scott 22 for the Jeeps.

The Flyers visit South Gallia Friday and host New Boston on Saturday.
