Panthers’ wrestling trio advance

JACKSON — The Chesapeake Panthers’ wrestlers have some more work to do.
Three Panthers will wrestle yet another week after taking first place in two weight classes and finishing third in another at the Division III sectional tournament.
The Panthers’ Justin Pitts won the 103-pound division as he pinned Derek Thomas of Westfall in 47 seconds.
Chesapeake’s other champion was Shane Pelfrey at 160 pounds with a 7-0 decision over John Penn of Zane Trace.
Pitts worked quickly in the tournament. He pinned Landon Tomcho of Shenandoah in the semifinals in just 26 seconds and his quarterfinal win was a pin over Austin Inman of N-Y in 2:20.
Pelfrey also had an easy semifinal win as he took a major decision over Nick Hummerich of Caldwell, 12-3. His quarterfinal match was a pin in 1:13 over Justin Fulk of Crooksville.
Taking third place was the Panthers’ Alex McDonald as he beat Robbie Postlewaite of Belpre 9-7 in the 119-pound division.
Taking sixth place for the Panthers was Shawn Johnson at 112 pounds as he lost by pin to Dallas Immell of Paint Valley.
The Fairland Dragons had two wrestlers place third.
Nathaniel Brewer posted a 3-1 decision over Bryan McKee of Caldwell in the 171-pound class. Garrett Wireman was third at 145 won by forfeit over Ethan Lockhart of Belpre.
The top four individuals advance to the district tournament.
Nelsonville-York won the team championship with 202.5 points followed by Westfall with 193.5, Zane Trace 165, Caldwell 153, Paint Valley 16.5, Waterford 98, Belpre 96 and Chesapeake was eighth with 80 points.
The rest of the standings had Wellston 66, West Muskingum 64.5, Shenandoah 60.5, Trimble 55.5, Crooksville 52.5, Meigs 48, Fairland 47, Alexander 40.5, River Valley 25 and Southeastern 19.
