Young Vikings get going with SOC win over Sciotoville, 10-0

AID — It’s time to get started.

The young Symmes Valley Vikings got an early taste of winning as they beat the Sciotoville East Tartans 10-0 Wednesday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.

“We have a lot of kids who haven’t played baseball for a while, so any time you can play and win it’s good for your kids,” said Vikings’ coach Chad Renfroe. “We’ve got a lot of work to do, but we’re getting better every day.”

The Vikings jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning.

Cody Myers walked, Luke Taylor was hit by a pitch and the pair pulled off a double steal. A balk scored Myers and Jacob Patterson had an RBI single. Patterson came around to score on a fielder’s choice.

The lead went to 6-0 in the second inning.

Evan Herrell tripled, Myers was hit by a pitch and stole second, and both scored when Taylor was safe on an error. Taylor scored on a wild pitch.

Symmes Valley put the game away with four runs in the third inning.

Herrell walked, Myers doubled and Taylor was safe on an error as a run scored. Patterson hit a sacrifice fly and Taylor scored on another error. Garrett Foster walked and later scored on an error.

Nathan Dockery got the win as he allowed just two hits, six strikeouts and one walk.

Symmes Valley (1-1, 1-0) plays at Rock Hill Thursday.
