That defensive struggle took a turn in the opposite direction.

The Chesapeake Lady Panthers and Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers combined for 12 runs and 25 hits in a battle of unbeatens Friday.

But the Lady Panthers used the clutch pitching of Allison Chapman to come away with an 8-4 win.

Although Chapman gave up 13 hits, she struck out 12 and did not walk a batter.

Myky Harmon slammed a home run for the second straight game and Sarah Mayo slugged two doubles to pace the Lady Panthers (3-0).

Mayo, Sidney Boyle and Casey Kirk were 2-for-3, Harmon was 2-4 and Chapman 2-5.

Ironton (3-1) was led by Alex Taylor who went 2-4 with a home run. Janie Morris and Rebekkah Potter were 2-4 with triples and Emily Lilly also went 2-4.

Chesapeake took a 4-0 lead before Ironton cut the deficit to 4-2 in the bottom of the third inning.

But the Lady Panthers got the two runs back in the fourth to lead 6-2.
